ABOUT WESTERN WRITERS OF AMERICA

  Western Writers of America, Inc., was founded in 1953 to promote the literature of the American West and bestow Spur Awards for distinguished writing in the western field.

The founders were largely authors who wrote traditional western fiction, but the organization swiftly expanded to include historians and other nonfiction authors, young adult and romance writers, and writers interested in regional history.

  Today it has over 500 members who write everything from mainstream fiction to local history. Its annual convention occurs during the last week of June in a western city. At that time, members, guests, editors, and agents gather together to renew friendships, do business, attend panels, go on field trips, and conduct the organization's business. Each convention concludes with the Spur Awards banquet, the moment when the WWA honors those who win the coveted awards.

  WWA actively helps its members promote their books and articles, and aggressively promotes the literature of the American west, which it considers this country's unique contribution to world literature.

Loren resides in Spokane, Washington with his wife Virginia of over 50 years. Two sons live in LA, and a daughter in Fort Worth, Texas. To visit them, he sometimes flies, but prefers to drive, observing the scenery and people for his next novel.

  Loren Robinson loves life, the outdoors and family. Loren is active in his community and has been involved in many activities. He served as a Naval air gunner in World War II, a logger, forester, successful land developer, and athletic coach. From these experiences, he’s been able to draw material for his wonderful novels. He has written 28 novels for audio production by Books in Motion in Spokane, WA, covering genres of historical western, sci-fi, and mystery. Loren loves history and takes trips to the areas he writes about. He researches those areas and gets input from local historians before penning the first page. Some of his most exciting novels so far published in audio book form, totally unabridged, is “The Expedition Series”. Loren’s gift for instilling historic fact into the present day experiences is unprecedented.

  Welcome to our website blog. I would like to introduce you to one of my favorite authors. They are a husband and wife writing team with over 120 published books between them…fiction & nonfiction for adults, teens, & kids (8 – 12). Their goal with all of their articles, stories, and books is to stir up your own creativity and strengthen the reader (listeners) faith.
  Both Stephen and Janet Bly are California natives. When they ventured up to Winchester Idaho they believed they had found their dream home come true. Not real fancy but very comfortable. They live close to their kids and grandkids. Finding it so peaceful, they were able to write over 120 published books.
  Stephen Bly has won many awards.  The Long Trail Home, (Broadman & Holman), won the prestigious 2002 Christy Award for excellence in Christian fiction in the Western Novel category. Three other books, Picture Rock, (Crossway Books), Last Of The Texas Camp (Broadman & Holman), and The Outlaw’s Twin Sister, (Crossway Books), were Christy Award finalists.
   Stephen is a very popular speaker at colleges, churches, camps and conferences all over the U.S. and Canada. He is the pastor of Winchester Community Church, and served as mayor of Winchester, Idaho from 2000 to 2007. He has been on many TV and radio programs and is an active member of Western Writers of America.
Janet has a B.S. degree in Literature and Languages and Fine and Performing Arts from Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston Idaho. She is a very welcome speaker at women’s retreats, writer’s conferences, and family seminars.
Her love for writing show up in her very accurate and historical way she describes the characters she writes about. She finds a way to unite Love, pain, healing, and intrigue with just enough of each to keep you longing for more and gives you a curiosity that will not let you stop listening.
